This truly amazing product was created in 2004 by Empire Resource Recovery, LLC. (ERR).
This company brought together an amazing cross functional team. Basically, this means that team members came from many different industries, including: construction, concrete, recycling, aerospace, engineering, mineral, and finance industries. The synergy that was created from this union of industry experts was great. They got together with the hopes of making seemingly conventional products truly sustainable and able to participate in LEED construction. After many years of intensive research and testing, this hope has become a reality.
Basically, glass is taken from any type of postconsumer source, such as bottle redemption and curbside pickup, and put through a patented process, which reduces the glass to a powder like substance. Once down to a small enough size, Pozzotive®
can be used as a postconsumer Supplementary Cementitious Material and functional industrial filler. This allows Pozzotive®
to be incorporated into a plethora of products.
For example, when Pozzotive®
is used as a SCM, it can be used to replace a percentage of the cement in a concrete design mix. This means that any product made from cement can integrate postconsumer content into its matrix. Some products that Pozzotive®
can benefit include: concrete block, pre-stressed concrete plank, precast concrete, ready mix, pavers, countertops, etc.
When used as a functional industrial filler, Pozzotive®
